Pope Francis: on migrants killed in Mediterranean shipwreck, “international community must act decisively and promptly”

“The international community must act decisively and promptly to avoid a repetition of similar tragedies and to ensure the security and dignity of all”. Pope Francis said this at the end of the Angelus in St Peter’s Square yesterday, remembering the about 150 people who drowned in the Mediterranean after their boats capsized off the Libyan coast on 25 July. Pope Francis invited those present “to pray with me for the victims and their families” and “also to ask from the heart: ‘Father, why?’”. His words were followed by a minute’s silence.
