African Bishops: Secam, card. Ouédraogo of Burkina Faso appointed new president

A solemn co-celebration at the Namungongo Shrine in Kampala, Uganda, ended the plenary assembly of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (Secam), to coincide with the 50th anniversary of its birth. The meeting, started on 20th July, was focussed on “Church-Family of God in Africa, Celebrate your Jubilee! Proclaim Jesus Christ your Saviour!”. During the assembly, the Bishops appointed cardinal Philippe Nakellentuba Ouédraogo, archbishop of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, as new president of Secam, replacing Gabriel Mbilingi, archbishop of Lubango, Angola. The Bishops also discussed and approved the “Kampala document” about the future of the Church in Africa.
