COMECE: Juncker attending Plenary Assembly of EU Bishops. Exchange on challenges and uncertainties ahead of end-of-May elections

In view of the end-of-May elections of the European Parliament, the Bishops of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) will be holding a three-day Plenary Assembly in Brussels (13-15 March) to exchange on “how to better promote ‘dialogue’ as the main tool to face the challenges, uncertainties and transformations impacting on the EU institutions and on our future”. The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, will also be attending the COMECE Plenary. “The dialogue with Jean-Claude Juncker – a statement from COMECE reads – will be an opportunity for Bishops to highlight the need to rediscover Europe’s common identity and better protect persons, families and cultures. Placing the human person at the heart of public policies and involving citizens in projects perceived as more inclusive and better serving the common good, shall also be part of EU priorities”. From 23 to 26 May 2019, all EU citizens across the continent will have to elect the new members of the European Parliament. “The results – COMECE wrote – will condition the political decisions impacting our day to day lives for the next five years”.
