TAV: EU Commission, if the funds are not used, they could be allocated to other European projects

(Brussels) The Italian Government’s “uncertainty” over the construction of the TAV high-speed rail line may put at risk the funds allocated by the European Union to the project, a Commission spokesperson said at a press conference at the Berlaymont, the Commission’s headquarters in Brussels. Indeed, “we cannot rule out having to ask Italy for the contributions that have been paid in, if there are prolonged delays”. In this case, there is also a risk “that, if the funds are not used, they could be allocated to other European projects”. Also, the construction of the Turin-Lyon rail link does not require a new cost-benefit analysis commissioned by the Italian government, since such analysis “was not requested by the European Commission”.
