EU Parliament: Brexit, contingency measures supporting young Europeans on Erasmus+ in the UK

(Brussels) “Contingency measures to ensure that people who are abroad on an Erasmus+ funded activity will not have their mobility period interrupted in the event of a no-deal Brexit” – this is what the Culture and Education Committee of the European Parliament will be discussing in Brussels today. The uncertainty in London over the withdrawal date (29 March) calls for extraordinary measures to be taken: the EU wants to ensure young Europeans who are on an Erasmus programme in the UK are protected. The Culture and Education Committee is also due to vote on the budget and new priorities for the 2021-2027 European Solidarity Corps programme. Also today, the Civil Liberties and Legal Affairs Committee will be working on the set-up of a new Justice, Rights and Values Fund. The programme “funds actions aiming to promote rule of law and judicial cooperation, as well as facilitating access to justice for everybody”. Also this week, political groups in the European Parliament will prepare for the 11-14 February plenary session in Strasbourg, Items on the MEPs’ agenda include: investments to boost economic, social and territorial cohesion over the 2021-2027 period; the trade agreement with Singapore; and the EU strategic communication to counteract propaganda against the Union by third parties.
