European elections: EU Parliament, projections for May’s elections. Conservatives down without the British. Left and Greens stable

(Brussels) According to the latest projections, the fourth largest political group in the next European Parliament would be the ENF (Europe of Nations and Freedom), inspired by a nationalist ideology: it would get 59 seats, up from the current 37, mainly thanks to the rise of League. The fifth group in the EP would be the ECR (European Conservatives and Reformists) with 51 MEPs (today the party has 75 MEPs, including the British Conservatives who are leaving the EU). The European United Left GUE is projected to pass from 52 to 46 seats; the Greens from 52 to 45 seats. The Eurosceptic EFDD Group (Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy), with MEPs from Italy’s Five Star Movement, would be the eighth largest group, passing from 41 to 43 MEPs. 10 seats would be allocated to “Non-attached Members” and 22 to new political groups that are not affiliated to any group in Strasbourg.
