Pope in United Arab Emirates: 120,000 expected at Mass on 5 February

120,000 faithful – as many as the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi and its outdoor spaces can accommodate – will be able to attend the Mass celebrated by Pope Francis on Tuesday, 5 February, on the last leg of his apostolic visit to the United Arab Emirates. This is a small number when compared to the million Catholics who live and work in the UAE. For this reason, the government authorities and the local Catholic Church have developed a plan to hand out free tickets. As explained by the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia, which includes the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen, by 20 January all tickets will be handed over to parishes, which will be in charge of allocating them. A quota will be reserved for the faithful of the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia, which has jurisdiction over the Catholic faithful of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and formally Saudi Arabia. To give everyone a chance to participate, the Papal Mass will be live-streamed in all churches of the Vicariate as well as on the official website of the visit www.uaepapalvisit.org.
