Finland: Helsinki, Bishop Teemu Sippo hospitalised in critical condition. Fr. Goyarrola (Vicar), “he receives Communion every day”

Bishop Teemu Sippo of Helsinki remains hospitalised after he fell on 26 December and sustained a traumatic head injury. The bishop’s health condition is improving and he is now “undergoing rehabilitation” even if “it is difficult for doctors to say how long his full recovery will take”. Vicar General Fr. Raimo Goyarrola gives the Diocese regular updates on the Finnish bishop’s health and also notified the president of the Nordic Bishops’ Conference, Mgr. Czeslaw Kozon of Copenhagen, and the Apostolic Nuncio, asking them “advice on how to handle the situation in accordance with the Canon Law”, Fr. Goyarrola explained. On 2 January, the vicar wrote on the website of the Diocese that he had “brought Holy Communion to the bishop and administered the sacrament of the anointing of the sick to him. I told him we all pray for him and are close to him. The bishop appreciated that and said he felt this love and support”. The Vicar also informed that diocesan priests “take turns in bringing Communion to the bishop every day”; furthermore, “it was agreed with the brothers of the bishop that there will not be further updates on the bishop’s health in the future until significant changes occur”.
