Pope Francis: to European bishops, “finding new ways to achieve a generous, responsible solidarity”

“Finding ever-new ways to achieve a generous, responsible solidarity, by looking for processes of fraternal pastoral cooperation, in the wake of the spiritual values that have shaped the thought, art and culture of Europe”. This is what Pope Francis “encouraged” to do to the people at the plenary meeting of the Council of EU Bishops Conferences (CCEE), opened in the diocese of Poznan, Poland, today. Tomorrow, the bishops will spend their first work session discussing “Europe: solidarity in education and society”, during which a summary of the survey on volunteering, promoted by CCEE and conducted in the last few months at the Bishops Conferences, will be presented. In the message sent by cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, to cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, president of CCEE, the Pope hopes “this significant meeting will help strengthen the bonds of communication between European bishops, pushing the mission of the Church even harder, especially in support of young people, to help them rediscover the fundamental contribution of faith to the unity of the European continent”.
