Lithuania: picture of the “Merciful Jesus” composed of thousands of small photos to mark Papal visit

The Divine Mercy image as a collage made up of photographs of the Lithuanians: this is what the organizers of the Papal visit want to create to mark the Pope’s meeting with young people at Cathedral Square in Vilnius on 22 September. Indeed, people were invited to send a photo of themselves so as to collect as many pictures as possible by 19 September. The aim is to create an image of the “Merciful Jesus”, linked to the spirituality of Saint Faustina, from thousands of small photographs. Everyone can upload a photo of themselves on the official website Www.papalvisit.lt. The goal and the hope of the organizers, a statement reads, is that “God’s Mercy will embrace everyone involved, even those not in Cathedral Square”. This initiative will also serve to “draw attention to the message of Divine Mercy which Pope Francis is continually inviting people to put in practice by undertaking works of mercy”. The first image of Divine Mercy was painted in Vilnius in 1934, following precise indications by Saint Faustina who described her vision to the artist. That painting is now venerated by pilgrims at the Divine Mercy Shrine in Vilnius Old Town. On 22 September, the painting will be displayed on the Papal stage.
