“Deeply saddened to learn of the recent wildfires in Greece”, Pope Francis has sent a telegram of condolences to local civil and Church authorities, through Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, in which he extends his “heartfelt solidarity to all those affected by this tragedy”. In particular, the telegram reads, “he commends the deceased to the merciful love of Almighty God” and encourages “the civil authorities and emergency personnel as they continue in their rescue efforts”. “Upon all who mourn”, Pope Francis invokes “the Lord’s blessings of consolation and strength”.
