Peace: Besançon, “International Festival” of Christian youth rural movements of France and Germany

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, the Christian youth rural movements of France and Germany have planned an “international festival for peace” (Besançon, 2-5 August). “Today, we are still far from being in a world of peace. So, through this festival, we decided to lay our stone to build a planet inspired by a culture of peace”, the president of the Mouvement Rural de Jeunesse Chrétienne (Mrjc), Brieuc Guinard, and the president of the Katholische Landjugendbewegung Deutschlands (Kljb), Stephan Barthelme, wrote in the invitation. The programme is quite intense, and the theme of peace reoccurs in lots of plenary sessions: “how climate change leads to conflict and war”, “building peace in a rural setting”, “world trade between war and peace”, but the future of the common agricultural policy and employment will be discussed too, and the stories of people of peace will be heard. All this will take place in a festive atmosphere, with lots of concerts and recreational workshops, from dancing to cooking, from theatre to meditation music, as well as a language workshop to “communicate during the Festival”. The list of theme workshops is a very long one too, with topics ranging from circular economy, Google, food sovereignty, competition in agricultural markets, to Israel and Palestine … On Sunday, August 5th, the Festival will be closed by Mass, officiated by mgr. Jean-Luc Bouilleret, archbishop of Besançon. About 5 thousand young people are expected to attend.
