Card. Tauran: Tveit (WCC), “he leaves behind a rich legacy of achievements which will be treasured in the years to come”

Card. Tauran

That of Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, “was truly a life of courage, compassion and commitment”, the Secretary General of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Olav Fykse Tveit, said in a statement on the passing of the cardinal. Card. Tauran “was held in great respect by interreligious partners for his capacity to build bridges of understanding and mutual respect with people of different faiths”, Tveit stated. He was committed to “the mutual flourishing of all through peaceful coexistence and actively sought to cultivate a culture of peace by uprooting violence and hatred and promoting harmony and trust”, Tveit recalled, referring in particular to the cardinal’s contribution to strengthening the relationship between the Pontifical Council and the World Council. “He leaves behind a rich legacy of achievements which will be treasured in the years to come”.
