Latvia: Caritas, knitting contest for the Pope’s visit. A gift for the Pontiff and solidarity with the Ukrainian people

Caritas Latvia has launched a knitting contest: to make a pair of socks as a gift for Pope Francis who will be in Latvia on 24 September. The most beautiful pair will be donated to the Pope, while all the others will go to Caritas Ukraine to be handed out in war-affected areas: “It is going to be a warm and national gift for the Pope” but also “a gesture of solidarity and friendship” with the Ukrainian people, a statement from Caritas explains. While some people are knitting or supporting the initiative, we are all called to “pray for peace in the world and for the Pope’s intentions”. The socks can be sent either to the collection point that will be set up in August in the village of Aglona, where the Pontiff will celebrate Mass, or to the Caritas Office in Riga.
