At least 22 deacons will be ordained priests in Austria all through 2018. Some of whom are not Austrian and have completed their priestly training in some dioceses of the country: 2 more than in 2017, but still far from the average, when as many as 35 ordinations used to be made. Most of them take place from Easter to Summer: June 29^th, the Day of St Peter and Paul, is a traditional date. In addition to eight Austrians, the candidates come from different countries, thus increasing the international character of the local clergy. Most of them have already worked or completed their academic studies before studying theology: the new priests will be painters, chemists, civil engineers, social workers, computer experts, journalists. Eight of the future priests belong to a religious order. The largest ordination will take place in Vienna on June 16^th, when card. Christoph Schoenborn will consecrate six deacons: two from Vienna, two from Poland, a German one from the seminary of Vienna, and a Chilean one from the Neo-catechumenal Way. In Innsbruck, on June 17^th, a Franciscan theologian from Salzburg and a young local man will be ordained, while in Graz a Vietnamese will be ordained with a Franciscan and a young man from Styria: while, on June 29^th, two Nigerian seminarians will be ordained, also in Graz, and likewise, in St. Pölten, on the same day, a young man from Lower Silesia will be made a priest. And, on July 1^st, mgr. Stefan Oster, German bishop of Passau, will officiate a joint Austrian-German consecration of two Salesian seminarians at the Bavarian Benedictine abbey of Benediktbeuern.
