Europe: 8 thousand young people in Strasbourg. New ideas for the future of the European Union

(Strasbourg) Eight thousand boys and girls aged from 16 to 30 and 400 events will fill up the European Parliament in Strasbourg on June 1st and 2nd, for the third European Youth Event (Eye2018), when young people from all over the EU as well as from non-EU countries will be called to outline and list their priorities for the future of Europe. All debates, shows and workshops will be focussed on five themes: young and old – rich and poor – alone and together – safe and dangerous – local and global. Most of the events have been designed and prepared by the 130 participating youth associations. The president of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, will open the plenary session of EYE on Friday at 10.00 am, and about 50 MEPs will attend the workshops and debates. In addition, these young people will have a chance to talk with politicians such as Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, Marianne Thyssen and Yanis Varoufakis; Denis Mukwege and Lamiya Aji Bashar, winners of the Sakharov Prize, will be there too. The ideas and plans that will be worked out over these two days will be put into a report, which will be submitted to the MEPs in parliamentary committees in Autumn, during special hearings on youth.
