EU Parliament: in Strasbourg to discuss economy, work, agricultural policy, Schengen, and the future of Europe

(Strasbourg) The European trade and industry, the EU budget, the Schengen system, the common agricultural policy, and the political situation in Libya: these are some of the topics on the agenda of the European Parliament that is holding its plenary session in Strasbourg, from this afternoon until Thursday, 31 May. On 30 May, MEPs and EU leaders will exchange views on the “Future of Europe”: this time, Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, will address the audience. The current President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, will also make his contribution to the debate. Mr Bettel will be the sixth EU leader to discuss the crisis and the reforms that the EU should undertake: a member of the Liberal Democratic Party since 1989, Xavier Bettel was first elected to the Luxembourg Parliament in 1999. He has been serving as the country’s Prime Minister since 2013. Speaking in previous debates were Leo Varadkar (Ireland), Andrej Plenkovic (Croatia), António Costa (Portugal), Emmanuel Macron (France), and Charles Michel (Belgium). The next debate during the June plenary session in Strasbourg will feature Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
