Poland: Discalced Carmelite Nuns, a new cloistered monastery with ten nuns in Wityny

A new convent of Discalced Carmelite Nuns, dedicated to Mary Mother of Hope and to St Therese of the Child Jesus, will open in Wityny, near Elx, in north-eastern Poland. On Saturday, April 28th, mgr. Jerzy Mazur officiated a celebration in Wityny. The nuns, who are currently about ten, came to the diocese in 2004 and three years later they started to build the convent, with remarkable support from the local congregation. “We wish that, just as the convent was built with the help of Our Lady of Good Counsel, now it can be a place where everyone will find counsel in the difficulties of life”, Father Wojciech Ciak, delegate of the provincial superior for Discalced Carmelite Nuns, said during the ceremony. As well as providing information about the congregation and cloistered life, the website of the new convent, www.karmel.elk.pl, hosts a space where visitors can ask for prayers. There are in Poland another 88 cloistered facilities that are home to 1,500 nuns from 16 religious orders, out of about 40 thousand consecrated persons, belonging to 180 male and female congregations and religious order.
