COMECE: Msgr. Gallagher (Holy See), “Create unity not divisions these days”

(Brussels) Today’s mission of the Church in Europe is “to face real problems” to “create hope”, “look for solutions together”,  “create unity, not divisions, these days”. Those words were spoken by Msgr. Paul Gallagher, Secretary for Relations within the Holy See’s Secretariat of State, while talking to SIR alongside the plenary assembly of COMECE, the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community. While answering the question on the role that the Church may play to foster a nice atmosphere in times of populism, Msgr. Gallagher said: “I think one part of the mission of the Church is asking for truth, constantly, presenting problems with sobriety, knowing difficulties and encouraging people to be hopeful. It is also a matter of helping people and country leaders to face real problems, understand facts, grasp reality, and involving all political and social actors with bravery and no fear, in order to look for solutions together, creating unity, not divisions, these days”.
