(Brussels) “A free trade agreement that will be more expensive and complicated than the existing ones. Here’s what Brexit is all about”. This was said by Donald Tusk himself. In answering the question that the British Prime Minister Theresa May asked him last Friday about the state of relationships between the United Kingdom and the European Union, today the president of the European Council said that the 27 EU member states want to maintain “a close partnership” with Great Britain in “terrorism” and “international crime” as well as in “research and innovation, education and culture”. Air flights too must be protected, according to Tusk. The president of the European Council is in Luxembourg to meet Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and prepare the agenda for the European Council of March 22^nd and 23^rd. If Tusk’s proposal is approved by the other countries at the March summit, then the EU negotiator, Michel Barnier, will have to use it to negotiate with Great Britain. “We will face the negotiations with the United Kingdom with a positive approach, but realistically too”, the president of the European Council said. “No member state is free to choose the pieces of free market it likes or accept the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice only when it’s good for it”.
