“We, the heads of the Catholic Churches in Denmark, Finland, Island, Norway and Sweden, support the recent ecumenical Statement of the heads of the Churches in the Holy Land concerning the systematic campaign against the Churches and the Christian community, in flagrant violation of the existing Status Quo”. The statement, released from Turku, was signed by the seven bishops who are members of the Bishops’ Conference of the Nordic Countries, which has recently held its meeting in Finland (26 February – 2 March). In their statement, the Bishops also urge their respective governments to “commit themselves to oppose all discrimination” and turn to their ecclesial communities encouraging them “to pray and to take action that can promote a just peace for all”.
