Norway: Diocese of Oslo, new organizational structure. Bishop Eidsvig: “Catholic community is growing, responding to the challenges”

A “new organizational structure” is being set up in the Diocese of Oslo to respond to the challenges posed by the “strong growth of the Church in Norway in the last ten years” and to meet administrative standards, Bishop Bernt I. Eidsvig said in an interview published on the website of the diocese. Now there is “a clearer organization with defined structures to ensure that decisions are carefully prepared, made at the right level, and that those in charge take on responsibility”, administration chief, Anne-Mette Ringdal, explained. This will be useful to know “who to contact when there are requests or help is needed”. The overhaul is meant to “better support believers and communities” and to ensure “resources are used to serve the primary mission of the Church: preaching, administering the sacraments, and charity”. Another concern is to “meet the demands of the authorities” and to comply with “public standards” in terms of structures and transparency. A “management team” took office on 1 March; it is composed of administration, treasury and communication managers who hold regular meetings with the “pastoral team”, made up of the bishop and the vicar general. Another novelty is the “Human Resources” department for managing Church collaborators (priests excluded). A “Department for Communities, Religious Education and School” will also be set up to ensure close cooperation with the pastoral councils.
