Siberia, fire in shopping centre: Patriarch Kirill, “prayers for all innocent victims”

“His Holiness, Patriarch Kirill, is grieving with the relatives and friends of those who died in the fire in Kemerovo and is praying for all the innocent victims. The Patriarch prays for the recovery of the injured and sends His blessing to all of those who are helping, the doctors, rescuers, volunteers, and even those who are indirectly involved in helping the victims”. This has been posted on the website of the Patriarchate of Moscow by the Patriarch’s spokesman, Alexander Volkov. Just today, the Patriarch “will officiate a memorial service for the victims of the tragedy”, while he asked that tomorrow “memorial services be held in all the churches of the Russian Church”. “Today, as everybody’s hearts feel deep pain for the tragedy of March 25th in Kemerovo, I would like to express my sympathy to those who have lost relatives and friends”, the archbishop of Moscow, Paolo Pezzi, wrote too this morning: “I ask all our believers to join me in prayer for the repose of the dead, for the recovery of the victims, for the consolation and support of the relatives and friends, for God’s help to all those who are responsible, that such a terrible tragedy may never happen again”. The website of the Catholic parish church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Kemerovo, along with a message of sympathy for the victims, announces that tonight “a Holy Mass will be celebrated for the dead, the injured and their loved ones”. The website of the Metropolia of Kuzbass invites “all those who find the strength, time and will to attend the prayers for our fellow citizens”, at 5.00 pm in the Chapel of the Mother of God, “Joy to all who grieve”, in Kemerovo. “The clerics are still in the operational unit, praying and meeting people”, the website goes on. “The Sisters of Mercy, as well as the appointed priests, keep doing their ministry in the hospitals”. It is the governor of the region, Aman Tuleyev, who asked “for a religious ceremony, for citizens of all faiths, for the repose of the souls of the victims” of the fire.
