“The Bishops recall that all forms of anti-Semitism violate the Christian principle of brotherly love”. This is according to a statement issued at the end of the Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops held on 13-14 March in Warsaw. The Bishops insisted on “the need for the Poles and the Jews to continue dialogue based on truth, trust and mutual respect”, and recalled “what has already been achieved in this area by people of good will, Poles and Jews alike”. The Polish Bishops celebrated the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’ pontificate by taking part in a liturgy and expressed to the Pope their “gratitude for his constant concern for the Church in Poland”. In the year marking the 100^th anniversary of Poland’s independence, the prelates, with the participation of historian Jan Zaryn, thoroughly discussed the Church’s contribution to the growth of Polish spirituality. Furthermore, they made an urgent appeal to politicians to “resume without delay” the work on the draft law that prohibits abortion in cases of sickness or foetal malformation (eugenic abortion), noting “the need for unconditional respect for each human being throughout his/her entire existence”.
