Austria: Bishops to hold their Plenary in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “Challenges for the Church and society in both

For the first time in history, the Austrian Bishops’ Conference will hold its Plenary Assembly in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A celebration in the Cathedral of Sarajevo will kick-start the Plenary on Sunday, 4 March, while on Monday the Austrian Bishops, along with those of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will focus on the “challenges of the Church and society in both countries”. According to the programme, which the Secretary General of the Bishops’ Conference, Peter Schipka, illustrated to Kathpress news agency, other items for discussion at the Plenary include the Synod on Youth, for which Bishop Stephan Turnovszky will be responsible, and “collaboration between the German-speaking Bishops’ Conferences in the publication of liturgical texts”. The programme also features “high-level meetings with political and religious authorities”: Card. Schönborn, together with a delegation of bishops, is due to meet the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There will also be a meeting with the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Valentin Inzko, and a visit to the headquarters of the EUFOR troops as well as to churches and charities. The Bishops will be guests of the Archbishop of Sarajevo, Cardinal Vinko Puljic, and meetings will take place in the seminary. A press conference will be held at the end of the Plenary with Cardinals Schönborn and Puljic.
