Albanian Bishops: new presidency elected. Mgr. Frendo is president, Mgr. Peragine vice president, and Mgr. Meta secretary

The new presidency of the Albanian Bishops’ Conference has been elected: Mgr. George Frendo, Archbishop of Tirana-Durrës, is the president; Mgr. John Peragine, apostolic administrator of southern Albania, is the vice president; and Mgr. Gjergj Meta, Bishop of Rrëshen, is the secretary general. A statement from the Bishops’ Conference informs that the election took place yesterday during the General Assembly, “in a very fraternal climate”. Interviewed by SIR news agency, Mgr. Frendo said he was “very happy to be able to continue to serve the Church in Albania: for me, this is nothing new, having served for many years as secretary general”. For Mgr. Meta, his election as secretary general is “another service to the Church that my brother priests have entrusted me”. A service, he told SIR news agency, “for a Church open to the world that recognises the signs of the times and acts in the name of the Gospel. We have always had excellent cooperation with the new president, and I am sure that this cooperation will be further strengthened”.
