“We must resist that individualism which isolates us from others and prevents us from thinking of others, from taking care of the smallest and the most marginalized”: “The 100 years that have passed in our journey of freedom have shown, time and again, that new life is only possible thanks to people’s determination to sacrifice themselves for another person and for God”. The Lithuanian Bishops wrote a letter to their faithful to mark the beginning of Advent, after the end of “the special year that the Lord has given us”: the centenary of independence, the year of the Mother of God, Patroness of Lithuania, the visit of Pope Francis on the 25^th anniversary of Saint John Paul II’s visit. As Pope Francis told us in Kaunas, the Bishops recalled, “today, we need to ask once more: what is it that the Lord is asking of us? Which are the peripheries that most need our presence so that we can bring them the light of the Gospel?”. According to the Bishops, since “the face of the Son of God is imprinted in the heart of every human being”, by “doing good during this Advent season”, “we shall see the face of Christ”, and “communion with others will help us to meet God”. Indeed, “it is when we reach out to and build communion with others that our journey to holiness truly begins”.
