Colombian Bishops: delegation to visit Brussels to meet with European Parliament’s representatives and discuss peace talks

A delegation of the Colombian Bishops’ Conference will visit Brussels to meet with representatives of the European Parliament, the Commission and the EU External Action Service in view of the ongoing implementation of the peace agreement. Since the European Union has shown significant support for the peace process in Colombia, the delegation is planning an exchange with EU officials on the present situation in the country. Discussion will focus on peace negotiations, human rights and the internally displaced persons (IDPs), the influx of refugees from Venezuela, and the prospects for socio-economic development. The news of the visit was given by the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) which will host the delegation together with CIDSE, Caritas Germany, Bread for the World (Brot für die Welt) and the humanitarian aid organization Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe providing assistance in disaster zones. On Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 October, Mgr. Oscar Urbina Ortega, Archbishop of Villavicencio and president of the Colombian Bishops’ Conference, and Mgr. Hector Fabio Henao, President of Caritas Colombia, will be in Brussels. A press point will be held at COMECE Secretariat on 11 October, at the end of the talks.
