The English Bishops call the Catholics of England and Wales to take up the invitation to pray and take action that was made a few days ago by Pope Francis for the Muslim Rohingya people in Myanmar. “As Christians, we have a duty to support people of other faiths who are persecuted and abused”, Bishop Declan Lang, director of international affairs at the British Bishops Conference, says. “I hope the Catholics of England and Wales take up Pope Francis’s appeal to be supportive with the Rohingya people both by praying and by supporting the rescue operations carried out by organisations, such as UNCHR, to help the hundreds of thousands of people who have been forced to leave their homes”. It was August 27^th when the Pope, after the Angelus prayer, made this appeal to the world: “Sad news has arrived – he explained – about the persecution of the religious minority, our brothers the Rohingya. I would like to express all my sympathy with them, and let’s all ask the Lord to save them and to spur men and women of good will to help them, that they may give them full rights”.
