Great Britain: attack on London underground. Scotland Yard, “it is terror-related”

Terror is back in London. An explosion occurred in the London underground at around 8.20 (9.20 Italian time) during this morning’s rush hour, on a train that was arriving at the Parsons Green station. Among the many people injured, some 20 were left with “facial burns”. According to British media, some “containers filled with explosive” were seen inside the carriage where the explosion occurred. Frightened passengers fled, creating a dangerous mob when the train stopped at the station: they jumped out of the carriages and started to run. Scotland Yard indicated in a tweet that the incident is being treated as terrorism.

The Metropolitan Police urged the population to keep calm and if anyone saw or heard anything suspicious to contact them by calling 0800 789 321 or 999 for emergencies. The police also urged anyone with photographs or videos from the scene to upload them to www.ukpoliceimageappeal.co.uk

There is a strong presence of armed officers at the station. The security measures are part of the counter-terrorism Protocol of Scotland Yard. Immediately after the explosion, bomb squads were reportedly making a second explosive device safe, also found in Parsons Green underground.
