Kosovo: Fr Koliqi (parish at the Pristina Sanctuary), “ready to welcome pilgrims from all over the world”

At the Sanctuary dedicated to Mother Teresa, Pristina, pilgrims from all over the world are expected: “We will be ready to welcome them with joy – says the parish priest, Fr Fatmir Koliqi – and with the love of Mother Teresa. Our people is known for their hospitality”; now we have to realise “what we may offer, and how, in which ways, and which specific aspects. For our Church, it will not be difficult to feed believers with the same spirituality as Mother Teresa, because we share the same blood. Pilgrims will be able to understand the roots, the family, and the culture in which she was born and where she lived for 18 years”. The idea is to propose a “Walk to the places of Mother Teresa”, including the Cathedral of Prizren, where her parents lived, historically full of spiritualism, Christian archaeology, culture, interreligious and ecumenical dialogue; the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Letnica, where Mother Teresa decided to become a missionary in the service of the poor; and the city of Skopje. The Sanctuary in Kosovo is the witness of the Gospel of Jesus, for “living as our ancestors lived, proving the beauty of faith”. In “periods of great suffering”, the Ottoman occupation and communism, “the Church was a stronghold for our people, in all respects”. Today, Kosovans (Muslim people) “are seeking their Christian roots, which their ancestors lost centuries ago. We shall support them in a special way, and we’ll help them to embrace the faith of their fathers. Mother Teresa, a daughter of this people, will be the central figure in this path of faith”.
