Future of the EU: Juncker in Strasburg. Ankara accuses the Netherlands, “So Turkey can’t join the EU”

(Strasburg) “Those who make those accusations cannot join the European Union”: President of the Commission Jean-Claude Juncker speaks about the political clash of Ankara and Amsterdam. He stands by the Netherlands and says: “The words of Turkey against Holland are shocking. Any comparison with Nazism is groundless”. “The Dutch were subjected to the same impositions e sufferings which Luxembourgers suffered from Nazism”, says Juncker, speaking also about his country and hinting at the story of his family”. Therefore: no Turkey in the Union unless it changes direction. Moreover, from the headquarters of the European Parliament in Strasburg, he spoke about the 60th anniversary of the Treaties and the strengthened collaborations granted by Treaties; not all countries of the East or West are taking part to ongoing collaborations, he said. About the White Paper and the future of the EU he says: “As for the points we wrote in the Paper, I say no to the one reducing the European Union just to single market”.
