Pope Francis: audience, appeal “not to create walls but bridges”. It is not “Christian” to say “you will pay for this”

The witness of the faithful “does not remain confined within the boundaries of the Christian community: it resonates with power even outside, in the social and civil context, as an appeal not to create walls but bridges, not to repay evil with evil, but to conquer evil with good, offence with forgiveness, and to live in peace with all”. Pope Francis said this in today’s audience, adding off the cuff: “A Christian can never say: ‘You will pay for this!’. This is not Christian: offence is conquered with forgiveness”. “This is the Church!”, Pope Francis exclaimed: “This is what Christian hope achieves when it takes on the strong yet tender traits of love”. “Love is strong and tender”, he commented off the cuff.
