Violence in Congo: father Mumbere (Comboni Missionaries), let the international community “keep piling pressure on the president” for the election

“Young people who attack churches are let free to do as they like. And it’s strange, because, when the opposition rally, the police immediately steps in. We hope there isn’t the hand of power behind this that makes them do this against the Church …”. This was said to SIR by Congolese father Joseph Mumbere, provincial superior of the Comboni Missionaries. Father Mumbere also makes a call on the international community: “That it may keep piling pressure on the president so that he may follow up on the agreement. The problem is there. The agreement has put everyone more or less at peace. If a new government is elected, the election can be held”.
