Economy: Dombrovskis (EU Commission), “Reforms, investments and policies for sound budgets are bearing fruit”

(Brussels) “Member States are making progress in carrying out the individual strategic lines received last year in relation to the ‘virtuous triangle’: re-launch investments, implement structural reforms, and grant responsible budgetary policies”. That is the opinion of the European Commission, which today produced a document within the “European semester”. The 27 reports by country (for all member States apart from Greece, which is now the subject of a stability support programme) include “an analysis of the situation of the economies of the States, including, if necessary, an appraisal of macroeconomic imbalances”. Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis, in charge for the Euro and financial stability declared: “Today’s analysis shows us that our strategy based on investment promotion, carrying out structural reforms and sound budgetary policies is bearing fruit. For this reason, instead of misleading people with promises we cannot respect, we should keep this direction and make further efforts to get over the crisis and the structural lacks of our economies”. The policies of the EU and Member States “should be meant to make our economies more resilient, and to extend all the positive effects of recovery”.
