EU Parliament: delegations of MEPs to Palestine, Poland (Frontex) and India

(Brussels) The delegation of the European Parliament for relations with Palestine has arrived in the Middle East “to discuss the peace process, especially the Israeli settlements”. The committee, which will stay until Friday 24th February, “will also check the local projects funded” by the European Union. The MEPs will “meet both president Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian and Israeli peace activists, and will visit – a release states – the communities that risk forced evacuation”. If they are granted access, they could also go to Gaza where they will meet the Labour Minister, Abu Shahla, and the director of Unrwa operations, Bo Schack. A delegation of the Civil Freedom Committee is instead in Poland, in the Warsaw headquarters of Frontex, to check the operations of the European Border and Coast Guard. The MEPs will also meet the executive director of Frontex, Fabrice Leggeri, and the director of Fundamental Rights, Inmaculada Arnaez. This week, the delegates of the Foreign Affairs committee and the delegation for relations with India will be visiting the Asian country “to revive dialogue between the EU and India about issues such as the fight against terrorism, cyber-security, piracy and human rights”. The result of the visit will be a draft resolution about relations between the European Union and India, which will be voted on by the EU Parliament by the end of the year.
