The Dutch Catholic Church, which, on November 7^th, with all the Dutch Churches, will be fervently commemorating St Willibrord, the English bishop who, astride the VII and VIII centuries, brought Christianity to the region, will be spending the first Sunday in November in initiatives and fund-raising campaigns in support of the ecumenical projects of the Church. This year, the highlight in the diary will be the 500^th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation. In Den Bosch, today, a workshop will “take stock of the year of the Reformation in terms of ecumenism”, to see if the Churches have managed to achieve their goal of “reconciling memories and celebrating Christ’s feast” and to reflect on the prospects that will be opening for the future of ecumenism now. On Sunday, at the initiative of mgr. Hans van den Hende, bishop of Rotterdam and ecumenism director, an ecumenical concert will be held in Woerden with traditional Catholic and Protestant songs followed by the Vespers. On Sunday November 5^th, the fund-raising campaign that will take place in the Churches will be allocated to supporting the efforts that the Dutch Catholic Church is making for ecumenism. On Monday, November 6^th, the Cathedral of Utrecht, after the ecumenical Vespers, will host a workshop about the evangelising efforts of English monk Willibrord, to understand whether “he was the first example of European cooperation or whether there were disagreements between England and the continent back then”, as much as there are with Brexit nowadays.
