Poland: millions of faithful pray the rosary along the country’s borders, in the streets, hospitals, stations and airports

“On Saturday, 7 October, several million Poles have prayed the Rosary simultaneously throughout the whole country. According to a statement from the spokesperson for the Polish Bishops, who “have encouraged” participation in the recitation of the Rosary along Poland’s borders”, the initiative has been the largest religious event in Europe after World Youth Day in 2016”. The common prayer promoted by secular organizations has aroused great interest among the national media and social networks, and has been advertised on Twitter with two hashtags (in Polish), #RóżaniecDoGranic and #RozaniecDoGranic. The spokesperson for the Polish Bishops, Fr. Paweł Rytel Andrianik, took the opportunity to stress that, considering the anniversaries of events of major importance, the year 2017 is especially dedicated to the Virgin Mary. “Indeed, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions, the 300th anniversary of the coronation of the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa, and the 140th anniversary of the apparitions in the Polish village of Gietrzwałd”; also for these reasons, “the faithful gathered to pray the Rosary not only along Poland’s borders but also in the streets of various cities, near several significant places, in churches and chapels, at hospitals, stations and airports, and in many other public places”. “Their numbers have far exceeded the organizers’ expectations”.
