Austria: chocolates and fruit jellies for supportive projects in Africa, Asia and South America

The October charity campaign organised by Missio Austria and Katholische Jugend (KjÖ) has begun. The initiative aims at promoting fair trade and fairer life prospects for young people all over the world: fair-trade organic chocolates and fruit jellies will be sold in schools and parishes. With the motto “Choose your mission – Change the world in a fair way”, the initiative will try “to make everyone a winner”, says the director Missio Austria, Cistercian father Karl Wallner, by sharing the abundance of the north of the world with the south: “The young of the southern countries are growing in destitution, but in a livelier, richer religious atmosphere, while in Europe we are more prosperous but poorer in faith”, Wallner wrote in a letter. For the young people of Catholic Youth, education and awareness-raising are two fundamental efforts, and the idea behind the October campaign “is to bring people to taste solidarity”, the president of KjÖ, Matthias Kreuzriegler, said. Proceeds from the sales will be used for a home in Kenya for children and adolescents who have escaped human trafficking; for the education and rehabilitation of children in Rwanda; an info bus in the Philippines against the trafficking of children; and a project for education to nonviolence in Colombia.
