EU: Culture Agency, “European Remembrance” project. Funds for historical/education initiatives

(Brussels) “To contribute to citizens’ understanding of the EU, its history and diversity” is the objective of “European Remembrance”, the initiative of EACEA, Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency. The initiative is within the “Europe for Citizens” programme. The EU provides funds “to finance projects reflecting on causes of totalitarian regimes in Europe’s modern history”, and “to commemorate the victims of their crimes”, as well as projects “encouraging tolerance, mutual understanding, intercultural dialogue and reconciliation”. The maximum eligible grant for a project is 100,000 euros, which may be required by either local or regional public authorities; NGOs; cultural, youth, educational organisations of a member State. Projects involving several countries will be preferred. 39 projects were approved in the previous competition. Selection criteria: “relevance to the theme, quality of the activity plan, dissemination, impact and citizen involvement”.
