Sweden: exhibition in Gothenburg “Women in interreligious dialogue”. Testimonies of faith and dialogue

“Women in interreligious dialogue” is the title of an exhibition which will be unveiled at the Lutheran Cathedral in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 29 October. “In one of the most secular countries in the world, women’s religious witnesses are rare”, said the organisers. The exhibition aims to show how “fifteen women from different faiths live friendship, prejudice and freedom”. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Interfaith Centre which for five years has been working in the field of interreligious dialogue, offering a space and various opportunities for meeting and dialogue also in view of a concrete commitment to the life of the city. The content of the exhibition was inspired by a “writing course” that Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh, Jewish, Christian and Hindu women attended at the Centre. Now the exhibition aims to tell how these women have “experienced meeting one another and overcome prejudice, and how, for the first time in their lives, they had to figure out the rules about the food, body, clothes and rituals lived out by women of other faiths”. And also how, through this encounter, these women have understood “their responsibility in countering hatred, using dialogue as a tool”. The exhibition was set up with the cooperation of Berit Bornecrantz Dias, from the Interfaith Centre, and Marie-Louise Bengtsson, Pastor at the cathedral. Hanna Eliasson curated the graphics.
