“I wish to express my sorrow for the massacre that took place a few days ago in Mogadishu, Somalia, that killed over 300 people, including some children”. The Pope said this before greeting the Italian-speaking faithful at the end of his Wednesday Audience in St Peter’s Square: “This terrorist act – Pope Francis said – deserves to be most strongly deplored, also because it was against a population that is already so sorely tried. I pray for the dead and the injured, for their families and for all the people of Somalia. I implore the conversion of the violent and encourage those who, with enormous difficulties, are working for peace in that tortured land”.
