Before greeting the Italian-speaking faithful at the end of his Wednesday Audience, Pope Francis issued a twofold appeal: to pray the Rosary “for the intention of peace in the world” and for “the safeguard of Creation through an ever more careful protection of the environment”. “Next Friday, 13 October, will mark the end of the centenary of the Marian apparitions at Fatima”, he began: “With our gaze fixed on the Mother of the Lord and Queen of Missions, I invite you all, especially in this month of October, to pray the Holy Rosary for the intention of peace in the world”. “May our prayer move the most belligerent souls, that they may banish violence from their hearts, words and deeds, and build nonviolent communities that care for our common home”, the hope expressed by Pope Francis in line with the message for the latest World Day of Peace: “Nothing is impossible if we turn to God in prayer. Everyone can be an artisan of peace”. Also next Friday, we celebrate the International Day for Disaster Reduction, the Pope recalled, renewing his “heartfelt appeal for safeguarding creation through a more attentive protection of and care for the environment”. “I encourage the institutions and those with social and public responsibilities to further promote a culture which has as its objective reducing exposure to risks and natural disasters”, Pope Francis said: “May concrete actions aimed at studying and protecting our common home gradually reduce the risks for the most vulnerable populations”.
