In the Jubilee Year of Mercy, “and continuing on a journey begun with different European Catholic bodies”, CCEE’s Caritas in Veritate Commission, in collaboration with the Bishops’ Conference of Bosnia Herzegovina, is organising a meeting on the urgency and topicality of the Works of Mercy in Europe today. Following the invitation expressed by Pope Francis in the Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy (Misericordiae Vultus, 15), those responsible for the entities in Europe which, through their daily work, put God’s Mercy into practice and demonstrate the topicality of the works of mercy, will meet in Sarajevo along with delegates from the Bishops’ Conferences who, in turn, represent the work of the local Churches in this field, and with representatives from Vatican Dicasteries”, a release states. The meeting will have opportunities for reflection and testimony aimed at “demonstrating how at the centre of the Church’s activity is the human person always in need of God’s love. Looking first at each corporal Work of Mercy with the help of entities directly involved in these areas, participants will focus then on the “new Works of Mercy”: those linked to the urgencies which grip Europe today and which are aimed at the welcoming of migrants and refugees, the dignity of work and the world of politics”.
