Portugal: National Communications Days. Role and instruments of Church communication

The Catholic Church in Portugal has announced that the “Social Communications Days” this year will be held at the “Domus Carmeli” in Fatima from 22 to 23 September. There will be an “exchange of views on how to rethink communication”. The main goal of the meeting, which will address the topic ‘Rethinking the Communication of the Church in Portugal”, is to “reflect on the sharing and dissemination of content and on the role and contribution of every social communication medium or body”. We will try to promote dialogue and discussion among all participants, so that on the second day, having listened to the proposals of University Lecturer Fernando Ilharco and of Fr. José Maria Gil Tamayo, former director of the Social Communications Secretariat and current spokesperson for the Spanish Bishops’ Conference, we will be able to issue useful guidelines in the form of a résumé and a programme”, said the director of the Portuguese National Secretariat, Fr. Américo Aguiar, as he presented the event. Likewise, the debate will try to “bring out the identity and functions of the national Secretariat for Social Communications, by identifying the resources that are currently available and those it should be provided with in the future”. Registration for the “Social Communications Days” will open on Tuesday, 6 September.
