EU: Brussels to host the ”European week of regions and cities 2016” about sustainable growth and investments

(Brussels) The spotlight is on inclusive, sustainable growth and the simplification of structural and investment funds: these are the two items on the agenda of the ”European week of regions and cities 2016” due in Brussels from 10th to 13th October. The Week “is a meeting and networking platform for regional and local development experts who are interested in sharing good practices about economic development, international cooperation, social inclusion, including the management of the refugee crisis, regional innovation strategies, creation of micro-enterprises and SMEs”, state the promoters, i.e. the European Committee of Regions (CoR) and the EU Commission. The 14th Week will offer 130 workshops, including workshops coordinated by partner regions and cities (186 partner regions and cities, including 15 capital regions/cities), and by the EU Commission, plus university workshops organised with the support of the Association for Regional Studies, the Association of European Planning Schools and the European Association of Regional Science. The opening session, which will take place at the European Parliament on 10th October, will present the Week’s theme: “Cohesion as the main investment policy for EU regions and cities”. In addition, the programme includes the ceremony for the Regio Stars 2016 awards.
