Ukraine: 9th Ecumenical Social Week under way in Lviv, focus on migration

(Bratislava) – “The Migration issue: challenges for Ukraine” is the title of this year’s edition of the Ecumenical Social Week which is underway in Lviv since Wednesday. For the ninth time, the representatives of various Christian denominations, religious organizations, educational institutions, state authorities, the public sector and mass media have gathered to share their experiences and seek solutions to the social problems of society. “The military operations in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the occupation and annexation of Crimea, have forced many Ukrainians to flee their homes. Then there is the war in Syria, and the terrorist attacks in Europe”, say the initiators of the project, explaining why migration has been chosen as the main topic. “Millions of refugees become victims as they are forced to leave their homes and seek refuge in Europe, which imposes a certain level of responsibility on Christians”, continue the organizers, emphasizing that “modern states have to demonstrate their public support and solidarity to people through various assistance programs”. Events and activities will take place until 1 October to mark the occasion.
