An ecumenical autumn: after Assisi days, Pope Francis will meet Anglican Primate Justin Welby once again. Next October, from 4 to 6, the Archbishop of Canterbury will go to Rome again, where he will meet the Holy Father and pray with him at the tomb of Saint Peter. It will be a powerful image to tell the world that Christian unity is possible, and is fostered by concrete gestures. The two leaders met in Rome for the first time in June 2013. The agenda of the guide of the Church of England includes a meeting with “Partnership for World Mission” (agency of the Church of England taking care of missions) on 4 October, as well as the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Anglican Centre in Rome. Catholic weekly “Tablet” says that during the vespers in the Church of San Gregorio Magno al Celio (the place from which Pope Gregory the Great sent Saint Augustine of Canterbury to evangelise England), the two leaders will choose 17 pairs of Anglican and Catholic bishops from all over the world for collaborating in their dioceses. Moreover, on 12 October, Pope Francis will send a message to Westminster Abbey (the London Church mother of Anglicanism), where British Premier Theresa May, Catholic Primate Vincent Nichols, and Anglican Primate Justin Welby will speak at a function dedicated to celebrating the end of slavery.
