UK: brochure of the Catholic Church, “Faith inside: a guide for Catholics in prison”

A catechism to support Catholics in prison. The idea comes from the Bishops Conference of England and Wales, and the Bishops Conference of Scotland, which, for the first time, along with “Redemptorist Publications”, have published a brochure that supports convicts through the Sacraments and helps them cope with difficult experiences, such as bereavement. “Faith Inside: a guide for Catholics in prison” – this is the title of the brochure – contains tips to cope with the moment they will be discharged and will have to go back into the world. The bishop in charge of the prison service of the Bishops Conference of England and Wales, Richard Moth, said that the guide “clearly shows the way to those who are considering faith while they are in prison and proves them that they can be loved by God and welcomed by our society”. According to the writer of the brochure, don Eddie McGhee, himself a chaplain in one of the over 150 British prisons, “the development of one’s personal faith cannot be disjoined from other dimensions of growth that are needed in a convict’s life. I hope one of the goal the publication of this leaflet achieves is spreading the message that God is a loving and forgiving father”. An ecumenical version of the brochure will follow the Catholic one and will be published by the “Jerusalem Trust” in the early 2017.
