European Commission: new funds for growth, employment, migration and security

(Strasburg) At the same time with the speech on the “State of the Union” made by President Jean-Claude Juncker in Strasburg yesterday, the Commission presented several related initiatives such as intermediate review of EU budget 2014-2020. Without touching the expense thresholds agreed upon with EU Parliament and Council, “the proposed block will provide additional funds amounting to 6.3 billion euros until 2020, meant for “promoting creation of jobs, investments, economic growth, and for facing migration, understanding its real causes”, says the Commission. Therefore, the additional funds proposed for the period until 2020 are meant for the two great priorities of investments and migration, as follows: first of all, 2.4 billion “for programmes such as the European Fund for Strategic Investments, the initiative in favour of youth employment, the research programme Horizon 2020, Erasmus, and the mechanism to connect Europe” (CEF: Trans-European networks for transport, energy and digital services); 2.5 billion euros for activities in progress in the fields of migration, security and control of external borders, including establishment of European Coastguard and Border Guard, the Asylum Agency, and the reform of the common asylum system. Other specific initiatives concern investments and copyright regulations.
